August Bits & Pieces
Theo (email@example.com) is researching the High Wych platoon of the Home Guard, which was part of the 11th Batallion based in Bishop's Stortford during the 2nd World War. I know that the local headmaster, Mr. Mabey was the sergeant. I have found some general background info on the web and there are some documents at Hertfordshire Archives. One thing, my wife tells me that the commander of the High Wych platoon was a Mr. Haddock who was a bank manager, she thinks at Barclays in Sawbridgeworth. She got that information from her late father who was a corporal in the High Wych platoon. I have tried to find further info but drawn a blank. Somehow I would find it priceless if High Wych did indeed have a captain Haddock where Walmington on sea had a captain Mainwearing. If you have any information please contact Theo direct.
Ann has provided an update to WALBY, Essendon, c1875-1890, Gamekeeper, correcting the information on Diana Walby.
Alison is putting a lot of old photographs online at Buntingford in Old Photographs and I have added appropriate links to the Buntingford page on this site.
Perry has contacted me about BLANKS involved with The Blanks & Lefebure Brickmaking Machine and I hope to report further in September
Jackie's mother was admitted to the Kingsmead Special School in Hertford in 1921. Post WW1 school records are really outside the scope of this site, but the school had formerly been the workhouse so the most likely place to look for surviving records is HALS/
I spotted a query on Rootsweb about a possible birth at Hill End Mental Hospital, St Albans, and replied commenting about possible birth certificates.
I have updated the page on St Dunstan, Hunsdon to record an earlier dated copy of the post card of the interior.
In COUSINS, Watton-at-Stone, circa 1700 I have suggested a possible baptism for Michael's ancestor , Jonas Cousins
Another CDV added to the relevant Downer of Watford page - new back but no date.
A post card showing Thundridge Parish Church, has been added.
